I called it that to be very clear that I’m running my own ship now. I’m making the decisions..

– Madison on what inspired the title of her debut EP

As She Pleases is the debut extended play (EP) by American singer Madison Beer. It was released on February 2, 2018. The EP was supported by three singles, "Dead", "Say It To My Face" and "Home With You."

Background

Madison was 12 when she began recording As She Pleases. The entire project was created over the span of 6 years. As She Pleases was originally intended to be released as an album under Island Records. She released the singles, “Melodies” and “Unbreakable”, both of which had a tween-pop sound and were intended to be singles for the album. However, over the course of time, Madison became more and more dissatisfied with the direction her album was taking.  “I made like 100 songs at least, so I made all these records when I was younger and people were like, ‘Oh yeah, we’re going to put an album out’ and I was like, ‘No I don’t like this anymore, I don’t like this anymore.’ And they said, ‘You can’t keep making songs and scratching them,’ and I was like, ‘This is my name, this is my brand, this my career."[1] Madison later revealed that she in addition to that, Island Records gave her little creative control or overall say on her debut album stating: “They kind of just gave me them and said, ‘These are yours and you don’t really have a choice whether to put them out or not’. They wanted me to be very pop, very Disney queen. I was really young, I didn’t know the industry. I felt trapped for a long time.” [2]

Ultimately, Madison decided to part ways with Island, and to instead release an EP independently first before releasing a debut album. As for why she waited until 2018 to release a body of work, Madison stated, "Honestly, I just didn't feel like I had found my sound yet, until recently. I started putting out music was 13, so from 13-19 you change so much you grow so much and discover who you are. This stuff now that I'm putting out tonight, is the truest representation of who I am and the growth I've had and what I've gone through. I just feel like it's a true representation of who I am and what I've done, and what I'm about.[3]

On February 28, 2018, Madison announced via Instagram she would be headlining her first tour, the As She Pleases Tour. The tour began on March 11, 2018 and ended on May 20, 2018
